Scientific and production company "Research Center" was established in September 6, 1993 on the base of one of the laboratories of NPO "Vector" – a lead scientific institution of Microbiological Industry in the USSR.

The major production areas and laboratory facilities located in an industrial zone of Koltsovo Science Town (Novosibirsk region, RF) covers about 30 000 sq.m.

Development of preparations is a priority in the area of scientific researches. The company develops and produces the preparations for the following purposes:
- to improve and protect human, farm and wild animals, poultry, bees and plant health;
- to suppress putrefactive processes in water reservoirs of artificial or natural origins and to design the optimal microbial communities in water environments for life and functional activity of fish, shrimps, crabs and other kinds of aquaculture;
- to make and/or restore soil bacterial community composition and structure which can provide optimum conditions for healthy plant growth and hence to improve plant functional activity and agricultural productivity.

Improvement of the organism’s health with the help of the developed preparations and methods by the company involves restoring and/or maintaining the functional activity at a level corresponding to the genetic potential of systems which ensure homeostasis – the ability of the organism to maintain chemical and cell stability. This ability in particular provides the most effective responses of an organism to external infections.

The effects of the preparation to improve health are evident from the following:
- the body’s resistance to any infective agents, toxins, stresses is increased;
- duration of infectious diseases is reduced;
- the efficacy of chemotherapeutical agents is increased in combined medical treatment and health improving procedures;
- most of the side effects of drugs on the body is avoided or eliminated.

In the sector of terrestrial farmed animal and poultry species breeding, the increase in a production process profitability and cost saving are provided owing to reduction in expenses for drugs and disinfecting agents, low feed conversion ratio, a shorter rearing period, low mortality.

Bacillus subtilis strain VKPM B-10641 (DSM 24613), Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strains VKPM B-10642 (DSM 24614) and VKPM B-10643 (DSM 24615), Lactobacillus plantarum strain VKPM B-2347 and Propionibacterium freudenreichii VKPM B-6561 being active agents of the serial products for improving health and produced by Scientific and Production Company "Research Center" provide high efficiency of our preparations. The project on improving the properties of some of these strains has been successfully carried out for 30 years and is currently ongoing.

The first strain Bacillus subtilis strain VKPM B-4759 is a prototype of Bacillus subtilis strain VKPMV-10641 (DSM 24613). It was created in the 80s of the last century in scientific institutions of Microbiological Industry in the USSR within the framework of the government project on development of biogenic disaster-protective means. The state registration of Vetom 1.1 as veterinary preparation with Bacillus subtilis strain VKPM В-4759 as an active agent was made in 1995. It was the first microbial preparation on the base of the genus Bacillus in Russia and the first preparation which was not a medicine, but it encouraged and made the body to cope with an infectious disease by itself. A multi-year practice in the "Vetom" serial products use (from 1995 to the present) confirms that the task has been tackled successfully.

The preparations do significantly reduce the risk of becoming ill with human and animal infections. They actively help the body kill infection if human or animals have been already infected. The efficacy of these preparations can be evaluated at a scale from "do no harm" to "allow the body to fully cope with the disease".

One of the quality tests with "Vetom" serial products according to Standards and Technical Specifications is to determine antagonistic activity of the active agents (Bacillus strains) against the following infective microorganisms: Shigella sonnei; Salmonella typhimurium (Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium – according to advanced classification); Staphylococcus aureus; Candida ablicicans.

These microorganisms cause such human and animal infections as various kinds of dysenteria (shigellosis), salmonellosis, acne, impetigo, furunculosis, phlegmon, anthrax carbuncle, staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome, abscess, pneumonia, meningitis, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, infectious-toxic shock, sepsic and other various diseases caused by Staphylococcus bacteria: from diseases of skin, soft tissues, respiratory , bones, joints, endovascular disease to traumatic lesion; and wide variety of healthcare-associated infections; candidiasis.

Studies conducted in the Testing Laboratory for Biotechnological Control of "Research Center" also show the high antagonistic activity of the active agents against other infective microorganisms from Company’s collection: Candida kruzei, Citrobacter diversus, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter agglomerans, Escherichia coli (hemolytic and toxigenic), Klebsiella ozaenae, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus vulgaris, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Choleraesuis, Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar enteritidis, Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Paratyphi B, Serratia marcescens, Shigella flexneri, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Yersinia pseudotuberculosis, Yersinia enterocolitica.
